End of Summer Sweetness

Resources

An end of summer guide, featuring recommendations from a few of your fave faces, including local delights, experiences, and products we’re loving as the sunshine season comes to a close!

We sat down with Hannah Mullen, Shelby Dempsey, and Lauren Schneider to chat about their favorite self-care indulgences, foodie recommendations, and where they like to shop as we say goodbye to summer and welcome in fall.

Hannah Mullen is a lifestyle content creator based in Indianapolis, your favorite nostalgia queen, and also works for Indianapolis Fox 59.

Shelby Dempsey is co-owner and COO of The Sixpence and Westwood. She is also a highly experienced wedding photographer having shot over 400 weddings around the world via Amavi.

Lauren Schneider is the creative behind the @laurenindy Instagram page. She’s a local content creator and is inspired by discovering local businesses and helping them market their offerings.

Self-Care: Press Pause Before Fall

Summer can be exhilarating; late nights, busy calendars, and more time spent outside than in. But before you dive into a new season, give yourself permission to slow down.

Soak in the last of the sunshine with a leisurely walk or picnic. Refresh your skin with hydrating masks and nourishing oils. Take a small digital detox; an afternoon free from notifications can feel like a luxury. And don’t skip reflection. Write down your favorite summer memories, big or small, as a way to hold onto the magic while creating space for new beginnings.

Here are a few ways to pamper yourself as we say goodbye to summer:

Lauren Schneider swears by having her nails done with beautiful designs and she loves her nail girl, Nails by Neat. “Nails by Neat is the perfect place to become a “nail girly” with a crazy hand of nail designs!” says Lauren.

Shelby Dempsey finds relaxation in moving her body and caring for her skin. She recommends checking our Face Foundrie and InFitness Club, “Face Foundrie is a truly fabulous, relaxing spot. Membership options, approachable price point, & above and beyond service and InFitness Club has an awesome array of health + fitness offerings: hot yoga classes, cold plunges, saunas, full body massage chairs, and a fully outfitted open gym concept. Nothing says self care like getting your body moving! I absolutely love this location and their incredible team.”

Wines & Dines: Savor What’s Left

The end of summer is the perfect excuse to get out, explore, and taste something new. Instead of staying in, let the season guide your appetite.

Seek out farmers markets, food trucks, and pop-up events that only happen this time of year. Try the seasonal dishes at your favorite local spot—or finally book that new restaurant you’ve been eyeing. Street fairs, winery tours, and late-summer festivals are ripe with flavors that feel fleeting and special.

Make dining an experience: share small plates with friends on a patio, linger over a cocktail spritz at sunset, or discover a café tucked away on a weekend road trip. Food becomes less about what’s on the plate and more about the memory you’re making with it.

Lauren loves to hit up Union 50, “Perfect for a hot summer night and offers an incredible experience with great service and a menu of unique, shareable plates. An absolute must-stop on your list!” Lauren is also always up for some friendly competition and enjoys hanging with friends and family at Pins Mechanical Company, “The perfect place for a night of good-natured competition. Grab a cocktail + challenge your crew for a guaranteed good time.”

Hannah Mullen finds herself indulging at Terra Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse for date night often, “Always such a good vibe – Perfect for date night!”

Shelby loves the vibes & offerings curated by 1933 Lounge in Carmel, “An absolute must stop on your list. Gorgeous location, with outdoor and indoor seating, a stunning bar, and a menu just as good.” Shelby also enjoys a sweet treat from Mochi Joy, “Incredible (and adorable) Hawaiian style mochi donuts, served in the cutest new brick + mortar shop in Fishers – so worth a visit with friends!”

Closet Candy

August and September call for versatility. Days are still warm, evenings cooler, and your wardrobe should flow with that rhythm.

Lean on layering, think denim jackets, breezy cardigans, and button-downs over sundresses. Shift your color palette gradually, letting brights fade into soft neutrals, earth tones, and rich pastels. Swap sandals for sneakers or loafers that feel grounded yet easy. And as you begin editing your closet, keep summer’s most versatile staples in the mix while slowly introducing texture; corduroy, cashmere, or a light scarf to hint at what’s ahead.

Here are a few of our favorite local places to shop:

Hope Anchor & Crew

Lilac Blonde

Duo Boutique

Howl & Hide Supply

The end of summer is about transition—slowing down, enjoying what’s still in season, and refreshing your routines. Take care of yourself, try something new at the table, and update your wardrobe so you’re ready for the shift into fall.
