A Word With The Professionals

The Sixpence asked: Teach us something! Let us know if there’s a favorite tip you’d like to offer, service you want to promote, or inspo you want to share with our readers!

“To help with creasing under the eyes from concealer- take a Q-tip after the initial application and wipe away any access in the wrinkles or fine lines, tap with brush or beauty blender & then set with your favorite powder!” – The Glam Lab Indy

“I teach 1-on-1 lessons and they are my absolute favorite. I love watching women learn how to play up their natural beauty at home everyday.” – Red Boss Beauty

“Many people believe that airbrush outweighs traditional makeup- but there’s really not a right or wrong choice! Some people might be good for one choice, and some for the other, but I encourage brides to feel open to either option. Your artist might help you determine which option is best for you based on your preferences and end result goals. Taking things into consideration like heat and humidity, can also help determine which choice is best for you! Your makeup choice is super personal and should allow you to truly feel your most beautiful.” – Black Swan Beauty

Let’s Talk Trends

The Sixpence asked: What makeup trends are you seeing and loving for 2025?

“Natural, fresh skin, and bronze eyes are coming back” – Red Boss Beauty

“Eyeliner on the water line is making a comeback” – The Glam Lab Indy

“I’m always going to promote fresh glowy skin. I also love a pop of color on the lip. But no matter what the trends are, I want my bride to feel like her most beautiful self in whatever way that feels most authentic to her.” – Abby Prather Makeup

The Sixpence asked: What hair trends are you seeing and loving for 2025?

“All up twist, sleek half up, soft curls” – Allie Powell Hair

“Undone French twists, a dramatic side bang (the millennial girlies are screaming), clean, classic updos and less structured curls. Think blown out, soft, voluminous movement.” – Alyssa Does Updos

“This year, we’ve noticed a sleek chic half up style taking the bridal world by storm! This style exposes the ears and has all hair around the face swept back, with big loose curls, making it perfect for someone who values keeping their hair out of their face, but still feeling like it’s down and covers their back.” – Black Swan Beauty

The Sixpence asked: What’s your best tip for brides when looking for professional hair and makeup partners?

“Look at their Instagram or portfolio! If the hair styles they create are an immediate save to wedding hair inspo folder, and their vibe fits the energy you want on your wedding morning, inquire!! Also booking 12-18 months in advance. I know it feels insanely early, like you just booked your venue. I get it! But beauty vendors book up quickly, and we are in demand! Most of us are solo artists who only book one wedding per day. We generally don’t require a big deposit at all, so if you’re feeling the $$$ pressure after just booking your venue or photographer, we are a more cost friendly vendor to book early and check off your list without breaking the bank.” – Alyssa Does Updos

“Do your research and look for a stylist that fits your style and personality! You want to feel yourself the morning of your wedding. Feeling comfortable and confident in your stylist is key!” – Allie Powell Hair

“Finding an artist that can stay organized and be flexible with your needs allows you to feel your most confident on the wedding day. What happens leading up to the wedding day sets you up for success going into that morning. Additionally, finding an artist that feels comfortable with diversity will do wonders for your group! Every person comes to their appointment with different features, so finding artists who can work with a variety of people will benefit your entire group, allowing them all to feel and look their best.” – Black Swan Beauty

“Hair extension rental is THAT GIRL this year. I offer Luxy Clip in hair extensions to my brides and marriers to take away the stress of “omg wait what color do I need? What length?? And the price!!” Once I noticed that most of my previous brides and marriers only intended to use their hair extensions for their wedding day and nothing more, I wanted to reduce hair waste (the hair extensions industry is a lil icky) and be able to color/length match them to know exactly what they need. The cost to rent is LESS than an Amazon set of clip in hair extensions, but you’re getting a higher end, better quality brand instead! I bring them on wedding day (one less thing to remember!!), and they mail them/drop them off back to me a few days later. Super easy.” – Alyssa Does Updos

“Get your skin in shape. Preparing for your wedding is a fabulous time to check in on your own self-care and develop a solid skin care routine. Are you getting enough sleep? Are you drinking enough water? Are you eating good healthy nutrients? Omega 3s and all the colors of the rainbow of fruits and vegetables? All of these components are SO important for your skin health. Makeup is amazing, but it is only a refection of the health of the skin under it. This is an excellent opportunity to gift yourself some time with an aesthetician or dermatologist to really get your glow on.“ – Abby Prather Makeup
