So you’re saying your vows during the summer (First of all, congrats!). Now, we’ll be honest, the following tips are pretty relevant year round, but *especially* handy if you’re planning for a celebration in the sunshine season.
1. Keep it Cute & Keep it Cool
Even if you’re planning for an indoor ceremony, be mindful of the time you’ll spend out in the sun for photos. Parasols, paper fans, sunglasses, newspapers, and cotton handkerchiefs all have a practical purpose for hot days, and bonus points if they’re photo-friendly!

2. Sleek Signage
Minimize your guests walking from here to there in the heat by providing plentiful signage that indicates details of your day, like the timeline, bar menu, ceremony location, etc. A bonus tip if you want your guests to love you: utilize mirror signage so guests can check their reflection throughout the event instead of making multiple restroom trips. (Great any time of year, but especially nice in the heat!)

2. Guest Dressing
There’s nothing worse than arriving underdressed to a black tie event, wearing stilettos for a wooded wedding ceremony, or forgetting a sweater for an outdoor fall wedding! Dress guides are a great way to ensure your guests’ comfort and expectations as event attendees, and make every photo of your day *chef’s kiss*
(Stay tuned as we dive into tips and methods for building dress guides in the next few weeks! xx)

3. Planning Looks Good on You
And I know you’re envisioning 90 degrees and blue skies, but let’s not let something as uncontrollable as the weather affect your dream day, right? Making a rain plan is essential for your sanity and that of your wedding professionals. (At The Sixpence, we will never leave you high and dry – and always ensure we have a stunning rain plan in place just in case!)
Because the summer season can feature those fun quick afternoon showers, you might not have to move your ceremony indoors, but you should definitely consider some plans to account for the humidity and its effects: curling iron/hair product to rejuvenate your locks post-ceremony, clear or cute umbrellas, and a handheld electric fan are a few items we might recommend.

4. Think Seasonal
The summer is an especially fun time to get creative with your bar menu – at The Sixpence, we’re so excited to share our new Cocktail of the Month series to inspire your bar menus throughout the year. (Tip: if you’re looking to design a specialty cocktail or mocktail for your party, email us at bar@thesixpence.com to get creative with our experts!)
5. The Light is Right
Summer means longer days – so plan your reception accordingly! At The Sixpence, we love having the ability to control light on your dancefloor by closing our blinds and dimming the chandeliers. Consider chatting with your DJ about uplighting and/or cold sparks to give your party that wow-factor once the sun does go down.
