With a chill in the air, comes romance too!
Everybody loves the holiday season, but we find it extra fun, being engagement season: when nearly half of yearly wedding engagements occur. At The Sixpence, we’re celebrating engagement season by offering resources, tips, and advice for hosting your dream day.
We like to say: You don’t need to be a wedding professional to host a beautiful wedding. You shouldn’t have to have a full scope of industry workings, or even be really good at planning parties. We are firm advocates of leaning on professionals to guide your vision into a reality, and are proud of the preferred vendors we promote, because we believe in their ability to ensure your day is seamless, beautiful, and unforgettable.
Today we’re sharing 8 Things to Do After Getting Engaged, featuring photos of Greer + Jason’s wedding at The Sixpence by Amavi.
- Engagement Celebration + Share the News!
So you said yes – What next?? Plan how you want to share the news! Maybe that means an engagement shoot, an engagement party with your intimate friends, and setting a date to make a website with your fiancĂ©. Maybe an engagement dinner with parents, a big social media announcement, and a lifestyle photoshoot for your new place are priorities to you. Decide whatever way you want to celebrate and share!
Some favorite photographers: Aubrey Lynn Photo, HoneyLens Imaging, Holly Lea Photography
Some favorite intimate dining spots: The Fountain Room, Noah Grant’s, Convivio
2. Book a Planner
We highly recommend working with a professional planner to ensure your day flows seamlessly, along with your planning process. Whether you’re looking for a full scale design and planning service, a planner with a variety of package options, or a “day-of” (short-term) planner, you’ll want to consider options.
We have many regular planners in our space, and love the variety of services they provide our clients!
A few of our favorite planners: Creating Joyful Moments, Vance Taylor Designs, Lovelight Events LLC
3. Create a Realistic Budget
Set a date, grab a laptop or notebooks, and sit down to prioritize what’s most important to you both. Don’t worry about every little detail you think you’re *supposed* to consider, but try to make a list of what you both feel should be a part of your day. Run some rough numbers, and a budget you’re confident to move forward with.
4. Establish the Look & Feel of Your Wedding
While you’re chatting about priorities for your wedding day, think about how you want the wedding to feel – colors, fonts, important fixtures or decor. Sometimes, thinking through adjectives that you’d describe your dream day can be helpful:
Breezy, elegant, warm, elevated, modern, classic, bohemian, upscale, retro, bright
Designers that can help bring your wedding aesthetics to life: Thoughtfully Designed Co., First Class Designs, Party Little Things
5. Find a Venue + Secure Your Date
You’ll want to put a date on the books! And finding your venue is the first step. When choosing a venue space, you’ll want to think about your hours and inclusions.
At The Sixpence, our single day rentals include full access to the Barn and adjacent outdoor celebration and ceremony spaces. Inside, that includes two private getting ready spaces, a caterer’s prep kitchen, a beautiful LED-equipped bar, and all event tables and chairs. Our clients also receive 2 planning meetings with a venue manager, and ability to extend their celebration at The Homestead and The Workshop.
Whether you choose to celebrate in a full-service venue space, a renovated venue, or a purpose-designed space with preferred options, you’ll want to note what each space you visit offers!
6. Create a Guest Count/List
Another date night! This time, sit with your significant other and decide on who and how many you’d like to host. You should have an idea of this from visiting venues and considering budget. You’ll want to chat about kids, plus ones, extended family, etc.
7. Choose Your Wedding Party
If you’re having a wedding party, you’ll want to decide and ask your friends well in advance of your festivities! Many modern weddings forego formal wedding parties, and choose other ways to incorporate loved ones and friends into their day. Either way, if you’re envisioning someone by your side on your wedding day, you’ll want to let them know ASAP!
8. Research + Secure Your Favorite Vendors
Find the vendors that you need to make your dreams come to life. You may want to consider categories like: catering, florals, photography, DJ, live music, rentals, cake, videography, photo booth.
We recommend perusing our Preferred Vendor Blogs to check out some vendors we love.
Planning your wedding day should be an exciting and beautiful experience – and we’re here to support your day with our expertise, alongside that of our talented vendor partners!
