In 2022, we hosted our first annual Garden Party at The Sixpence. An afternoon filled with a rainbow of blooms, sunny skies, beautiful gowns, and lovely guests made it the most memorable summer event of the season. Today, we’re sharing are our favorite tips to plan your own captivating summer garden party and entertain your guests in sparkling summer style. Whether you’re hosting in the gardens at The Sixpence, elsewhere on our property, or in your own backyard, here are some tips to ensure your day is a dream!

STEP 1: Plan a Fun, Interactive Activity
One of the most important aspects of a Garden Party is creating an opportunity for your guests to engage in an activity that they can enjoy beyond eating and drinking. Some of our favorite engagement stations we’ve seen and planned include a permanent jewelry station, henna tattoo service, hair braiding, and watercolor portraits sessions. STEP 2: Plan Your Snacks & Sips
You can’t host an outdoor party with out refreshing bites and beverages for your guests! To enjoy the luxury of a tea party in the beautiful outdoors, you might coordinate these refreshments with the theme and season of your event. We are loving cold fruit salads, tea sandwiches, iced tea, infused water, and delectable sweets from bakeries like Haley Dow Cake Co. and Top Tier Cakes. This year, we can’t wait to work with 8th Day Distillery to provide pre-made cocktails and n/a sips for guests to enjoy. STEP 3: It’s All in the Details!
The perfect combination of aesthetic & practical planning will make your day a success. We all know that the best parties pay mind to the details, ensuring your guests are immersed in the experience. Here are some of our favorite ways to focus on the little things:
– Keep it cool! If your Garden Party takes place in the summer heat, you can’t forget the ice. There are tons of fun unique ways to beautify this element: freeze fresh or dried florals into your ice (make sure they’re food safe!) or toss your extra flower heads right on top of your ice buckets for a decorative effect.
– Don’t forget the shade. It’s crucial to take advantage of any natural shade, so find those existing trees to set up under.
